Hamlet is a tragic play, written by William Shakespeare between 1599 and 1602, but as years have gone by, there have been made many movies produced in order to visually illustrate how the events of the play occurred. This allows the film directors interpretation of Hamlet to have an effect on the audiences understanding of the play, because they understand the play the same way as the director. One of the most significant act and scene in the whole play is Act I Scene V. The film work of Hamlet orchestrated by the director really focuses on being exactly as the written play by William Shakespeare. The written work of Hamlet and the movie directed by Franco Zeffirelli have many similar scenes. During the movie, there is lot of physical presence shown on screen when Hamlet and his Gertrude begin to argue. Th e interpretation of Franco Zeffirelli propose that further plot development due to the fact that Hamlet’s character is being given more internal conflict to overcome, which also connects to the hypothesis that Gibson’s Hamlet is stronger, both physically and mentally, in comparison to the original Hamlet. Also, Gibson’s Hamlet being stronger shows the impact of the setting on the story of Hamlet, because everyone cast appears either healthier or stronger than one would imagine them from Shakespeare’s original Hamlet. Plus, in the original play there are references made about the â€Å"heavy-headed revel† that causes other nations to â€Å"clepe us drunkards and with swinish phrase† (Hamlet I.iv.21-23). Shakespeare’s Hamlet is becoming enraged thinking about his Uncle tarnishing the reputation of his nation with his excessive drinking and partying. However, Gibson’s Hamlet shows an efficiently operating town with broken barriers between social classes and small gardens and farms.
